Advice for Decent Landrover Overland Specialists in SA

Postby Parkranger » Sun Sep 14, 2014 8:17 pm

Hello All, This is my first post on this forum and I hope you can provide me with some advice...

I am a brit with a love for the African continent. I have a 1991 110 200 Tdi called Maggie (maggieinafrica.com) that I have owned since 2009. I was lucky enough to drive her from London to South Africa which was an incredible experience. Several months later, 21 countries visited and numerous trips to bush mechanics I finished my journey in August 2010, lived in Botswana till the end of 2012 and then came back to the uk.

Since then Maggie has been residing in Botswana and until recently gathering dust.

My wife and I are planning to take a trip from South Africa to Ethiopia sometime next year. I have a few changes that I would like to make both externally and internally (new roof tent & updated storage cupboards, new shocks and springs).

I am planning to spend whatever time is needed to get her updated for a trip that could take anything upto a year. Could any forum members let me know which overland specialists you have used where you have had a positive/friendly experience that are worth recommending, especially for the quality of their service.

Thanks in advance

Noel

Try Northern Offroad. I have only heard positive feedback from them.

http://www.northernoffroad.com/ (Randburg Gauteng)

As with any of these outfitters (which are all mostly good - Safari Centre, LA Sport, Front Runner, 4x4 Mega World) they are all out to make a good few bucks off you. So best you go scout a branch (of each) and decide from there... DIY still the best...

Hope this helps. Google can help with the details...

My response (because you specifically inquired) is for overland gear ? For a mechanical overhaul of the vehicle we require a different set of recommendations...
