BFG A/T Cracks - Marnus Meyer

I had a set of 4 All terrain 31 x 10.5 x 15 BFG's on my vehicle and I managed 125000km's on these tires. It was only about halfway through their life that I noticed the cracks appearing. What is more, the cracks ONLY happened on the side of the tire with the tire name in WHITE. See photos marked "old tires" On the other side of the tires no cracks appeared. Since I had the white names mounted on the rim so it faces the inside, I didn't notice the cracks early. ALL FOUR TIRES DEVELOPED THESE CRACKS. (I only took photos of the two that hasn't yet got another job on the plot:-) Because of the high mileage I was quite happy with BFG (quote me on this forum some time ago:-)and I bought a second set of four BFG's. This time a mounted the white naming on the outside to monitor for cracks and, walla! after about 10000km's I noticed the first crack on one of the tires. See photos of this tire. The plot thickens - I had a mishap on my last trip to Kaokoland where, on a perfect gravel road just north of Kamanjab, one of my "New" BFG's (with only approx 7000km's on it) had a total side-wall failure. Tire was un-useable and had to buy another tire in Opuwo at great cost. The question I have to ask myself: Was this side-wall failure (Also on the white-wall side!) linked to the cracks that I've seen on 5 of my other BFG tires?

If anybody on the forum has developed similar type of cracks on BFG's (or know of anybody else that has), please let us know.

Thanks,
